Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum?
Metal tiers represent how you and the insurer split costs. Bronze plans have the lowest monthly premium (you pay ~40% of costs) but the highest deductibles. Platinum plans have the highest premium (you pay ~10%) but lowest out-of-pocket costs. Silver is the ACA benchmark used for subsidy calculations.
Will I qualify for a government subsidy?
The Affordable Care Act provides premium tax credits for households earning between 100% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Level. Our calculator gives a rough estimate — the actual subsidy depends on your state, plan choice, and exact household situation.
Why are premiums so different by state?
Each state runs its own insurance marketplace with different regulations, competition levels, provider costs, and health trends. Massachusetts, Oregon, and California have well-functioning markets; others like Alabama and Oklahoma have fewer options and higher prices.
